Charles Oxley's MemoriesThis batch of brilliant photos are marked January and I'm presuming the year is 1976. They're in no particular order and similar shots are not sorted together, they're in the exact order they were sent to me on CD.
Obviously leaving the UK with Allsopps on board.
I was wondering what Slaver had on his head in the previous shot!
I don't know the guy in the red shirt. Charlie tells me the guy in the red shirt is Fred Ward.
What a great photo, I'm still so pissed off that I was so sick I missed meeting up with Bob Chambers, among others, in 2006.
Mick Everson is one that hasn't popped out of the woodwork yet ... anyone know where he is? Happy times!
I only recognize Goldfish on the right but never sailed with him. Bleee writes; It's me in the centre with a guy we called Mildred on the left, his surname was Roper so he was named after the comedy duo George & Mildred.
I recognize that look on the punter's face. Can't name the boys though! Bleee assures that the guy going to get lucky that night is Gash and Arnie recalls the girl was a Steiner's hairdresser.
Charlie living his dream to be a Fire Engine Driver!
My old Mate Groucho in the Red Garter Club, San Francisco. Great shot of the absolutely mad but lovable Dirty Harry. The guy on the right looks very much like John Patrick (Paddy) Cooney who I've been trying to track down. We did our time together at Scunthorpe Steelworks. His aged Dad told me he's in Canada but he didn't know any contact details. Sadly, Paddy and I were never on the same ship. Both Charlie and Bleee agree the other guy is Jungle Jim Powell.
Bob's turn ...
I don't know the chick on the left but that's Geordie John and the gorgeous Charlotte (Jokers 7). I have a real thing for chicks that don't have the perfect smile. I simply can't understand anyone ruining their individuality with braces.
Not good!
they seem to be enjoying themselves!
Brilliant. A great shot of Super Mac with a red hot chick and the one between TT and Oakesy doesn't look half bad either and Freebie above her is just a stunner. Jacko's made a new friend it seems :) Bleee tells me the guy on the left is the late Howie.
What a brilliant pair ... the funniest man on the planet and the best Lager ever made.
Cabin bonding at it's best.
A whole case of Slopps ... what I'd give to have one of those right now.
Great shot! Is that John Hammond and Roberta ? It's definitely John Thow and the lovely Shirley Golby. Bleee and Charlie again agree it's Roberta Pritchard with John Hammond.
they're still going ...
yes please!
I'm glad they never asked me.
Freo on the fateful day I was in the plane at 1000ft. That's My Diffey's great mane. It was great to see Steve Musson at the reunion earlier in the year.
Classic rear.
Great shot of the old girl. Countdown for a few getting off I guess. Charlie tells me the guy on the right is Wingnut and on the left is Howie.
Did someone fart? Charlie adds; Wingnut is filing brushes to fit after ID fan armature went down (not enough spares so geni brushes used).
A couple of great Mates ... Charlie advises what they're working on are damaged ID fan brush gear.
Nice sunset picture. Is that Jewkesy on the right? Have you still got that hat TT? It must be the most well travelled hat in the world. Where the hell is Dirty Harry? All are agreed it's not Jewkesy but we haven't come up with a name yet.
Now that's what it was ALL about ... nice shot Charles! How embarrassing ... Bleee advises me this gorgeous babe is Lucille Coleman, Cornish's wife. I can see the resemblance now.
Good looking Flipper!
Great shot Charles!
The moving burial at sea of the dead beer fridge.
Now you're just being greedy Cornish! Charlie advises above is; L-R: Debbie, Paul, Lucille, Cornish and the lovely Liz (Charles' wife) You certainly were a handsome bastard Mr Whitehand.
That
Blues uniform should have been compulsory for the WAP's. Charlie advises
this was “If I was not upon the stage something else I’d like to be
…” with Nicky Seymour (Ents) wearing the cap. Good to see the VB's making an appearance ... had one or ten of those little bad boys yesterday and more to follow today when this is finished.
Cabin bonding again!
There's that uniform again.
Back at the Red Garter.
What you got in your little tin Bob?
How come this isn't focused Charles? Were your hands shaking too much?
Don't know these two.
Great shot of the Bogey!
The opposition!
This sort of thing should never be allowed to happen again ... very wrong :)
JT & Super Mac ... never far apart in those days.
Can't mistake those trunks Toby.
The PP looking good!
Ah Groucho ... we shared some good times.
I'm starting to think Charlie didn't like me ... I was at all these events and there's not one picture of me in the entire collection :( Thumbs up to you too Jewkesy! Christmas! ... nice new cap TT.
Ah Taffy ... always such good fun and that's Marty Elliott with his back to the camera. Haven't heard much from you recently Marty.
Great shot of Blackfoot and Kevin Timms ... still really good mates now even though they live on opposite sides of the world.
Another brilliant shot from the master photographer ... well done Chas. Slaver in the workshop!!!!!
John Bonaparte Hammond I presume! That's a big glass Bob ... nice shot of Dave George.
Dirty Harry on stage ... should we be worried ... damn right we should!
These were the first ones I originally posted. Can someone please name this guy ... I remember the face well in fact it maybe Simon Lockyer but I'm not certain.
The amazing Andy Jackson L-R: Dave Whitehand, Kevin Timms, John Atkinson, Bob Chambers and a very pensive looking Andy Jackson. This was our famous boat trip when the weather suddenly turned and the black clouds started rolling in as can be seen. That's Dave George and Harry Adamson carrying the box and Mike Jack on the left without the head.
Two Jokers Seven girls, the gorgeous Berry Leong and Charlotte ?
The infamous Red Garter Club in San Francisco. L-R: Back: Harry Adamson, John Atkinson, Pax, Mark Sawyer, Freebie. Front: Alistair ? (Super Mac), Alan Conlin, Pax, Pax, Dave Oakes. This group are marked April and again I presume the year is 1976. Far left is John Speed and the only others I can name are Kevin Timms with Steve Musson laying on Kevin's lap. This is amazing because it's definitely my cabin but I'm not in it and I don't remember taking it as I expect Charlie took it. Maybe I was on watch and they were just enjoying my beer! L-R: Lou Johnson, Pete Woods, Paul Clasby (in front of Pete), Les Diffey, Dave Jewkes, Steve Musson, Ken Worsfold.
Ken has kindly just reminded me of Lou Johnson. Only recognise John Speed, Kevin Timms and Dave Oakes.
Steve Musson with his arms up and John Russell far right.
The gorgeous Betty Leong and equally gorgeous Paul Robinson pulling the face.
Blue and Andy Jackson were always competing to see who could pull the weirdest faces ... I think Paul wins hands down with this one.
A typical Docks at sunset.
I dare you to drink it Dave!
Would someone please tell us what was being buried at sea here? Paul Robinson (Blue or Bleee) has kindly answered this query; The burial is an old fridge that had done more than it's fair share of service. I think it was in Charlie's cabin at the time of death!!
Don't know these two Leckies. Blue has also added the following to this photo; The Electricians you have asked to name are in fact Leckies Mates. The one on the right is the famous Howie (now deceased), the other I don't know.
Great shot of the O in Circular Quay.
Could be anywhere but I'd love to be there now.
That's Mike Jack leaning on the rail.
O's Deck
I remember the first time I saw this exact view.
Great shot!
Ditto
Ditto
Oriana's Port prop.
Great arse!
Not sure if this is front or back!
Classic!
Definitely the front. See what I mean about the face pulling competition, Jacko definitely wins this round. Bleee assures me that the guy on the left is Gavin Ash.
Excellent shot!
Bleee tells me this is Will Houghton.
A really unusual but excellent shot! It's not Gavin Ash is it? Yes it is.
That could be Charlie's wife Liz.
I loved that ship!
Panama Canal.
A great shot of the Golden Cockerel ... held by the fastest ship in the fleet, Oriana of course.
Captain John F Wacher conducting a Bridge Wing Visit.
Never seen this angle before.
A good shot of Vosper's Shed.
Panama Canal again, Bob Chambers, Andy Jackson and John Speed relaxing through the canal.
Mark Sawyer doing the same. Dave Whitehand and unknown in the Ocean Bar.
Back to the Canal.
That's what cruising was all about!
The famous ID Fan breakdown ... nice to see the old Swan Lager cans.
Pacific Princess. Alan MacKenzie writes; I was greatly intrigued by the photos of Pacific Princess. While all the pictures are, without exception, excellent the PP photos are particularly significant as they are extremely rare. They show the ship during what must have been her very first Aussie cruising deployment (1975, I think) as this, I believe, was the only time the body of her funnel was painted in P&O buff, the Princess "Sea Witch" painted over and the P&O logo substituted. Ever thereafter, when a Princess ship was deployed to Australia, she retained her usual Princess Cruises funnel colouring and markings. A pity as, personally, I think the funnel looked very good in buff with the forward vent surround remaining white.
Steve Musson and Paul Robinson.
The O.
Somebody wasn't watching where we were going that day.
Ditto.
Mark joins the workers.
Baked Beans and Green Beans!!!
The PP heading off ...
Leaving Sydney at the end of the tour,
The owner of this great collection, Charlie Oxley.
Pacific Princess again.
Bob Chambers found a comfy spot to watch the farewell.
That was the last time I saw Sydney ... must go back there again after 32 years.
Mark Sawyer and Bob Chambers.
Ditto.
Antigua Beach. L-R: Kevin Timms, Mark Sawyer, John Atkinson and Roy Arnold.
Is this Madeira?
Antigua again.
Don't know these guys but I do recognise the green cans. Dave Whitehand tells me the guy with the cans is Big Llewy and Gash leaning over.
Great shot of the O.
The ever happy and all round great guy Roy Arnold.
Crossing The Line.
Ditto.
Those green cans again ... I'm a few photos away from enjoying a few of those right now ... it is Father's Day today and I have been working on this for 7½ hours already today!
Oriana Decks. That looks like Gavin Ash. Blue assures me it is. That's Dave Whitehand under the sink.
Crossing the Line again.
Ditto.
Not sure ... is it a very young Bert McAughtrie? Roy Arnold has named this guy as Jim Pete.
The O again. L-R: Mark Sawyer, Pete Woods, Mike Jack and Dave Whitehand
with Paul Clasby bending over is it? Mick Everson giving some Dance lessons. Charles Oxley, Richard Reubin and ?? name escapes me. Blue and Ken Worsfold have jogged my memory ... John McMullen.
Dave George in the towel and Les Diffey ready to hit the shore.
Oriana in Norway. All I can name is Dave Grant on the far left. Don Cole believes the guy standing up on the far right is a very young Charlie Hill.
The Cricketer's Bar on Canberra.
Dave George again.
The Oriana taken from Canberra.
One of Oriana's Boilers.
No1 and No3 Boiler Control Panel.
Not sure?
Saying hello or goodbye to San Francisco.
A very wounded Harry Adamson.
Oriana's Plates ... this was my side on the right driving the port engine.
The famous Budgie that gave Kevin Timms a criminal record.
Paul Robinson, Betty Leong and Charles Oxley.
Blue with a rather tasty looking Pizza. John Speed looking very dashing.
Nice shot.
The Plates again ... starboard controls.
Oriana's Main Engines.
Paul Robinson with Croupiers Betty Leong and Charlotte but I don't know the other two guys.
Paul Robinson, Kevin Timms and John Atkinson ... Kevin in Civvies!
Not a pretty sight!
Bob Chambers.
Charles in the wig.
A great photo of Charlie chilling out.
