Nevasa Toga Night 1974

That’s George McHugh on the far left. Bob Eden has reminded me that the guy next to George is Ivan Squires but that’s all we know about him. I still don’t know who the next two guys are at the back but that’s Dennis Morris in the middle with the mo, Warren ? (Baby Doc) with the lemon juice and Big Bernie Smith on the right. In the front kneeling down is John Barclay.

This was taken very soon after Ivor & I first joined Nevasa on the 2nd September 1974 which was the start of both our sea careers. I think it was a Quiz Night but not sure really.

This was taken in December 1974. That’s me in the Mess Jacket with my now wife of 30 years in the light blue blouse next to me, and her fellow travelling companions at the back standing under the queen i.e. Judith Garbutt (nee Wright) on the left and Kerry ? on the right. The Gentleman bending over directly opposite me is David Marks (Entertainments Director) who told me on that Cruise to ‘marry that girl, you’ll never find another like her’. I’m not sure whether to thank him or kill him :)

That's Dave Kirchin on the left and the legendary Duncan Kilgour sitting on the deck. Not sure who the other guy is. Good to see the good old Allsopps again.

Dave Harbinson, ?? (Nurse), ?? (face in background), Derek Cook, Bob Eden, Dave Kirchin (with his back to the camera) and in centre shot looking extremely glamourous is none other than John Barclay.

Roger Lownsborough adds:

I believe the face in the background 3rd from left is Assistant Matron Rosemary (Rosie) Maxine Maling, a New Zealander from Christchurch.

Last Trip - Engineers Signed Photo

Courtesy of Bob Eden

I'll have a go at naming this lot. That's Ivor Young and Bob Eden at the back. The very front kneeling down is Bob Scarrott with john Barclay above him and Pugsley looking over JB's head. Just behind and on Pugsley's left is Jock Doig and just behind and on Jock's left is Derek Cook. In front of Derek is Laurie Cram. Next to Laurie is Willie Patterson (Chief) and between them is George McHugh (2nd). Next to Willie with the wheel key is Alex Morton. In front of Alex is Dai Thomas and finally front right with another wheel key is Dennis Morris. I don't know why I wasn't in it but as Duncan Kilgour and Harry Ritchie aren't in it either then it was obviously taken when the 4-8 were indisposed. We did sign it though.
