Keith
Radford’s kindly added some names to the above group.
‘From
the RHS: Captain (later Commodore) Fred Wooley in the gold cummerbund,
behind Fred's right shoulder against the superstructure is Charlie (Chaz)
Dodsworth, next to Fred wearing the tea towel is Graham (Chuck) Tuck, next
to Chuck is Paul (Brains) Hudson, then Jon Harvey.
With
the red beard is Steve Hunt (3rd Eng), then Dave Bannister (Lecky) and
next to him is a second Engineer called Newman sorry can't remember his
Christian name. The Vicar wearing the Sulu is Staff Captain Phil Jackson
and that's me Keith Radford next to "Staffie".’
Thanks

Keith
Radford’s come up with some great info about the above group. ‘The
photo is of the "Slimey Gumboot Revival" doing their bit for Pub
Night. To add a few more names to the faces. The guitarist on the left is
Phil Adkins, then John Thow as you
rightly said playing the tea chest bass, next is Bob
Jones playing the washboard and the guitarist on the RHS is Chris
Benham. Afraid my memory fails me for the final member of the
"Slimies".’

Keith
Radford has passed on this information ‘On the far RHS I would suggest
is my old mate Jon Harvey, then moving along to the left, Barry Chilton
(Freeza Geeza), Then definitely Doug Cruickshank. The bearded guy standing
on the LHS with glass of beer in his hand was a 3rd but I just cannot
recall his name.
Ken
Worsfold’s named the 3rd on the left as Colin Wright and the guy next to
Brian Richardson as Kevin O’Connor which has been confirmed by Keith

Brian

Alan McLeod
has been kindly been supplied by
Gareth Jones. Gareth adds;
I sailed with Alan on the PP in
75-76. I think he left P&O in 1976. Amazingly, I bumped into him at the Shell refinery
in Sydney about ten years ago, at that time he was the Shut Down Manager for the
refinery. Equally amazingly not three weeks after we met that first time in fifteen years I saw him again with his kids at a local McDonalds.
Aneurin Griffith
adds;
Just in front of Brendon is, I think, Bob Dent. At the very top right, no cap, is Simon ?, and in front of him is John (Snoopy) Gray. I'm not at all sure about this last, but next to Raymondo, could be Steve Quinnell? At the very front on the right is Splitpin (real name escapes me!) The Chief was John McLeod.
‘I
received this photo from Kevin Morgan, now resident in San Francisco. The
photo is of the "Port Side Ladies" aboard the SS Oronsay which
was an Oceanic Greyhound of 28,000 tons of Rust, Dust and Lust!!! The

in their Charleston gear. I need some help with identifying some of the
ladies, but I’ll give you what I know.

I
would really like to know what happened to Jacqui and also Pat Russell.
Pat was Kevin’s (who sent me the photo) wife. When they were married
they settled in Aus and Lynne and I used to see them a lot of them, for
whatever reason they parted company and divorced many years ago and Pat
returned to Europe. Rumour has it she did a Medical degree and is now a
Doctor in Switzerland. But that cannot be confirmed as absolute. Lynne and
I would love to get in touch with her again.
Jacqui
was (I believe) the daughter of the Daneman Family of the Daneman Piano
Company trading out of London. She was a gorgeous girl (as were ALL the
disco dollies). My wife also knew Jacqui very well and our daughter is
called Jacqueline Emma.
"Sally"
Brown was destined to marry one Paul (Brains) Hudson another of the bronzy
Oronsay ginger beers, but don't know if that ever occurred.
Sue
Solomans was last heard of as an Airline hostess with some airline or
other out of the U.K.’

When
making notes in the Engine Room logbook, notation had to be made as to
whether references were to MFT (Main Feed Tank) or MFT (Manky Frank
Taylor). He was an odd bod but had one of the 1st reel to reel video
machines that I had ever seen and used to have a tape of Frank Sinatra at
the Royal Albert Hall all in glorious Black and White, during a pour out
in his cabin my now wife Lynne managed to spill her drink all over his
machine … very careless leaving it in such a prominent position!!!!
Keith
Radford recalls this interesting piece of information ‘It came to
light on Sunday during the Sydney Reunion
that we’re all sporting the old Orient Line badge on our caps in
the above photo. At that time we also used to wear "Whites" like
those worn by Rod Kelly in the photo
with Peter "Tassie" Stuart. It was some time after that we were
issued with a cap badge that sported the P&O house flag that we know
so well today. Also at that time all officers had to have the gold rings
removed from the arms of their uniforms and have them transferred to
shoulder epaulets. Much to our dismay at the time. The only welcome move
was to change our "whites" to open neck white shirts with soft
epaulets and no tie, white shorts and long white socks with Gold Coast
real estate agents shoes. This was welcome relief from Long white trousers
with white shirt, black tie and white jacket worn over the top of it.
Miller Rayners must have made a fortune out of the changeover at the time.

Taken
on Oronsay in what was the tourist class ballroom (even though it was a 1
class ship) sorry I can't remember the name of the room but it was on
"B" deck Aft above the Fife Room which was the Engineers
favourite hangout. Probably because it was closest to the accommodation on
"C" deck and it was where the "Peaches" used to
congregate so was obviously a very popular venue, it also was not far to
"wheel in" to the Engineers Alleyway. The rendezvous point used
to be the scales in the "C" Deck lobby Aft, the door to the
Engineers accommodation just used to be alongside the scales in the
lobby!!!!! and was probably one of the most used doors on the ship after
hours. Oh happy days!!!

Suffice
to say it looks as if they’ve been working up the funnel on the ships
whistle or some other sooty/shitty place. It was "Harve" that
coined the term "Carbon Arse" for the horrible rash you got from
where sweat mixed with the Sulphur in the soot and you broke out in a
horrible red rash. Pretty accurate really!!!! The shot is taken in the
engineers Mess onboard the Oronsay and they’re obviously enjoying a cold
yellow peril before getting cleaned up and hitting the passenger decks.
This
is a crew change flight from the UK to Sydney. The above shot was taken
during a refuel leg stretch stop in Darwin. Dai believes that Don Hallam,
Chris Benham and Jon Harvey are in that lot with a WAP and the Baker at
the front of the queue. Dai asks; ‘Is the girl with her back to camera
the new disco dolly?’
Keith
Radford suggests that from the tarmac and up the steps the guys are,
Norman Geehan (with P & O beach bag), Bill (Willy) Carr, Chris
(Barbary) Benham, Paul (Brains) Hudson, and finally in the pale pink shirt
and tie is Jon (Harve) Harvey. Stella Rowe is the girl with the blue

Horan has kindly added the following;
I remember these ‘fishing trips’ well.
In the photo are Rafe the naïf, one of the best deck officers afloat, Sid Appleyard, who pulled more older ladies than any other,
Kev Morgan, song smith and electrician extraordinaire, Chuck Tuck, who could attract a woman just by looking at her, John Sullivan, the crazy 3/E, and myself.
On top of the boat is a Radio Officer, whose name escapes me. He, for some reason had the idea we were going fishing.
Obviously didn’t know us that well. Can't remember who took the photo, but it would have been either Bruce Lindon, Steve Green, or Paul Hudson, all of who were regulars on those Alaskan Odysseys.
