Graham 'Mara' Smith's Memories1974 Canberra passing Oriana.
1974 Oriana, scran time, but who are they? Aneurin Griffith writes; I'm sitting opposite Graham, and I think it's Pete (Jim Pete) Connors on my right. 1974 Peter Hannah RO, Pete joined the same day as me 6th April 1974 from General Cargo Division. He was a great bloke and we had a blast!
1974 Oriana boat trip, I'm on the right but who are the others?
1974 Stockholm I've put 1975 but not too sure of the date. Ted Towers RO. We were checking the lifeboat radio at Puerto Vallarta but also had a case of beer. 1975 a few of us hired bikes in the Bahamas, and a few fell off! That's Groucho on the right having a laugh.
1975 Oriana, Sydney. This is about the only decent one of me!
If I'd ever been that close to that bell Graham I'm sure it would've found it's way into my suitcase. It's a shame I never thought about it. Where is it now Jewkesy? 1975 Oriana, Richard Thorpe, Radio Room, busy as usual. Richard became a Doctor and last time I saw him he was living in Lincolnshire about 20 years ago.
1975 Oriana 1975 Richard Thorpe and Paul Barry, Suva. 1975 Larry Sylvestre, Richard Thorpe and me, Vancouver.
Are you sure it's spelt tre not ter Graham? 1975 Samoa, Jill ?, Chilly Ho. Very cute :)
Roger Lownsborough kindly advises that this lovely lady is Jilly Anderson. 1976 Curacao, Chris Samson and me.
1976 Island Princess.
1976 Island Princess passing under the Golden Gate.
1976 Sun Princess at Sitka
1977 Beach trip at Cabo San Lucas, any names? I think a few of us very nearly died that day after running around a headland getting smashed by a huge wave and dragged out to sea. I've still got the scars on my back.
1977 Pacific Princess footi team. We played a local hotel every visit to P. Vallarta. I don't think we actually won a game but gained a cup for staying the right side of sober. There was another memorable game we played whilst in Dry Dock in Victoria. Some bright spark organised a tournament between the Brits, Mexican sailors and the Italian waiters. Mexico V Italy a tight well played affair. Brits V Mexico, our keeper got a bad back picking the ball out the net. Brits V Italy, descended into anarchy with numerous black eyes and broken limbs, I think it was abandoned.
1977 Pacific Princess. One of the crazy parties we organized, you had to wear Mickey Mouse ears or you were shunned. I think a popular drink at the time was a Greyhound. Being from the NE of England we created our own version, a Whippet! i.e. Vodka, Pineapple juice and Creme de Menthe!!
Ah, those were the days!
