NEVASA
"SUSPECTED" PIRATE
ATTACK
Recorded
on the Nevasa scrap run in 1975 by Steve Borrill.
The
very calm and composed voice is Ted Banks, 2nd Officer on the day.
"A
suspicious looking boat is approaching the ship from forrad. It is
suspected that the men in the boat intend to board the ship and help
themselves to items of Ship's equipment. The "Attack Party" and
"Closing Down Party" rig and man fire hoses in the A deck port
alleyway. "Back Up Party" and "Boat Launching Party"
rig and man fire hoses in the A deck starboard alleyway. All other
available hands to assist as required. The Attack Party and Closing Down
Party rig and man fire hoses in the A deck port alleyway. Back Up Party
and Boat Launching Party rig and man fire hoses in the A deck starboard
alleyway. All other available hands to assist as necessary. The signal for
a suspected Pirate raid is the general emergency alarm."
The
next sound heard is the engineer's emergency bells.
The
next voice is Willey Patterson, Chief Engineer talking to me as I was
about to leave my cabin saying "It's
not "Boat Stations", it's not "Boat Stations", it's
the bloody Pirates!"
Then
the magnificent
sound of Nevasa's whistle.
Spine
tingling stuff!
