Don Cole (Snr), Ralph Taylor.
Don Cole (Jnr) explains;
The background to this reunion is that after reading Ralph’s comments that he was on the Stratheden as an Engineer in the late 50's and the fact that my father Don Cole (Snr) had also been on the Stratheden as 4th Engineer around the same time 1955/6 and that they both live in sunny Cyprus I decided to drop Ralph an email to cut a long story short, the “two old seadogs” managed to get together to “swing the lantern” again.
Below
is Ralph's email back to Don;
Dear Don,
I am sure you will be pleased to know that two "Old Seadogs" ex Carthage and ex Stratheden met up this morning in Paphos, to "swing the lantern" over a cup of coffee! I think your Dad enjoyed meeting up and we naturally shared a few photos and memories. I had printed out the picture of him taken from the Seadog website, but I wouldn't have recognised him from it! However, my wife and sister in law (who also lives in Paphos) thought he was a very handsome fella in his picture!!
It turned out that we may well have been the occupants of the same cabin on the Carthage - albeit not at the same time.
Thank you for facilitating our introduction, and the attachment should show the two old seadogs in question enjoying their chat and coffee.
With best wishes
Ralph Taylor.
Brilliant stuff!

Paul explains;
This is a photo of a group of P&O, P&O Australia, Cunard & Princess Cruises Chief Engineers and shore staff taken recently onboard Artemis at a pour out given for us by the ship's staff. Never seen so many together on a ship before, worked out to be 4 Chiefs for each watch!! Out of the group, 6 of us had actually been C/E on that ship. Most of the group had been attending a C/E's conference in Almere Holland & I was on my way home, by air, from Artemis' drydock in Bremerhaven Germany when the Icelandic Volcano erupted and closed a lot of European airspace for the best part of a week. I made it as far as Amsterdam airport before all flights were cancelled and the rest of the group were due to leave the following day. Faced with a long stay until flights resumed it was arranged to bus us all down to Zeebrugge and then join Artemis for the overnight voyage home as she was on a short party cruise. You can imaging the smirks when I walked back up the gangway having left the ship 1 hour before it sailed from Bremerhaven to Southampton 3 days before hoping to get home in early for my wife's birthday.

"I've been meaning to do this for some time and the opportunity came up yesterday. We now have to visit the office for a pre 'tour of duty' meeting to discuss any issues etc. I was in Southampton office today as I'm rejoining Arcadia next week. While travelling down I thought about stopping off on the way back and see if I could catch Mozo at home and see how he is, so that's exactly what I did. I found the house, parked and rang the door bell, the door opened and there was Mozo. What could I say other than, "Hi Chief, its David Jewkes". You should have seen his eyes light up and I received such a very warm welcome. Joy was also in and we sat and chatted for nearly 2 hours."
Courtesy of David Jewkes
"It was great to see him and just sit and chat. He was very complimentary about the website and looks at it regularly and has enjoyed seeing all the pictures and hearing about everyone. He said he will try and get all his pictures scanned and sent to you as he has quite a few. It was just "Fantastic" to see him and see how well he is."
Courtesy of David Jewkes
"Toni
is now 86 and Joy is 84. They are both very well and enjoying life. I hope
I can manage to live to their age and look and feel as good as they
look."
That's brilliant, thanks Dave ... simply brilliant!!

I had a visit from my old mate Martin Peek, who was holidaying in Vancouver. We hadn't seen each other for about 12 years and what do old seadogs do when they get together, but celebrate with Seadog Amber Ale (which is actually quite palatable) and I'm not trying to rub it in, I know you have tried to get some without success. I even asked a mate who was joining a ship down under, but turns out he was going to Singapore.
That's excellent Harbo, and thanks for trying to work a miracle to get one of those bottles of bliss into my hand :)

Yes, Mike Everson is onboard with his wife. I managed to get a couple of pictures last night but will be getting a much better set from the ship's photographer in a couple of days I hope. Mike is onboard with his wife to celebrate her birthday on the 14th of August. He is quite taken back about the web site in that he has never stumbled across it and cannot believe the amount of people who are now in touch as a result. I did not have long to chat with him but he was just blown away to think that a web site even existed. I printed off a few pictures to show him last night and it flooded back many memories. He will be having a look at the web site as soon as he gets home.
